JAROMÍROVA 4
Renovation and Reconstruction of an Apartment Building
Year of completion: 2022
The building at Jaromírova 4, initially nearly dilapidated, retained many authentic elements and the historical charm of the First Republic. Before we took it on, it resembled the adjacent property. The original owner had gifted one property to his daughter and the other to his son. When the one belonging to the daughter went up for sale, we seized the moment, purchased, and renovated the building.
During the renovation, we focused on restoring original details. We were captivated by the entrance doors and the gable with a medallion and figurative decorations on the facade. In the hallway, we discovered beautiful fragments of the original flooring and had replicas made, using a type listed in a 19th-century catalog.
In the sample collection, we were drawn to soft shades of blue, beige, and dark brown, which inspired the flooring’s subtle tones. The overall impression of the space is enhanced by stunning railings with Art Nouveau petal details.
Following the design of the only preserved oak veneer doors in Art Deco style, with geometric veneer patterns, we created replicas. The doors featured original nameplate tags, which we had cast at a foundry. The timeless First Republic style is also reflected in doors with faceted glass panels leading to the inner garden.
Today, when you enter the house, you don’t feel like you’re in a historic 19th-century building. Our efforts to restore the original atmosphere are evident in every aspect, both interior and exterior. The blend of historical elements with modern design creates a harmonious space, beautifully illustrated by the graphic patterns in the entrance hall that pleasantly “communicate” within the old building without creating contrast.
