LONG STORY SHORT

Renovation and Interior Design of a Historic Apartment
Year of completion: 2018

We collaborated with the client on another project—a family villa—when they approached us to design a city apartment for occasional stays.

Located in a historic part of Prague, the building is a national cultural monument, which required a sensitive approach to renovations. The new design honors the original structure while incorporating a layout with interconnecting rooms, a concept that proved highly effective.

We respected not only the building’s heritage but also the historical concept of old Prague apartments with their unique atmosphere. Inspired by the mysterious tales of Franz Kafka, which linger in the surrounding streets, we sought to evoke a sense of intrigue.

Our focus was on functional details that we cherish: hidden passages, a grid-like layout, fully functional restored fireplaces, sightlines through rooms, high ceilings, and original doors restored with brass handles and fittings. This apartment retains its history while paving the way for its future.
